Tips to help you protect your hardwood floors against heat!

Tips to help you protect your hardwood floors against heat!

With the hot temperatures especially around Florida and other coastal areas how do you protect your floors? Do you even know that you need to protect your floors? Some floors are designed and created to handle hot and humid areas but what about the floors that aren’t? Here is some tip to help you keep your floor protected if its hot outside.
It is important to understand your floors and how humidity levels can affect them. During the extremely hot months of summer it is important to know how to protect your floors especially hardwood floors. Solid hardwood floors can be so beautiful but to keep them looking great for years to come, you must protect them against those hot temperatures in some areas. Because it can be very hot many run the ac high and this can create dry air in your room. The humidity levels rise, and the floors also suffer and some shrinking or changing can happen. If you keep your humidity levels between 30% and 50% this will help prevent any hardwood floor expanding.
During the hot months we also spend more time outside so this means there is more dirt and water being tracked in. Dirt and dust can build up and cause your floors to scratch, another reason that protectant top coating is so important. Try to clean often with approved cleaning supplies so the dirt is clean and high traffic areas aren’t suffering the most. So, pay attention to those high traffic areas especially when kids are running in and out from the pool. Also, the direct sunlight can harm the floors during the hot months. If you see fading or discoloration this could be due to those hot sunny days so keep the blinds closed during the hottest time of the day to be safe. Some floors have UV protection so if this is a concern check out Floorzz products that are UV protected. So, remember keep those blinds closed to protect your floors from changing color.
As we enjoy the summer days and fun in the sun remember not to abuse your hardwood floors. Make sure they can handle what your putting through whether its opened blinds or kids running through the house wet. If you aren’t sure do a little research or give us a call, we can tell you if your protected or not.
