Laundry Room Renovation Ideas

If you're looking to upgrade your laundry or mudroom, you've come to the right place. We've got all the tips and tricks for the best way to renovate this multi-purpose space.

First things first: what are some of the most common issues with a traditional laundry room? Well, it's probably not that big of a deal if you have limited storage space or no ventilation—but if you're looking for a way to make your laundry room bigger or more functional, we've got some great ideas for how you can do just that!

Your laundry room can become a multi-functional space where you can store items like towels, sheets, blankets, and pet supplies. It can also include a sink for hand washing and light indoor gardening. You can even add a dog washing station to make sure your pets are well groomed and the mess is kept out of the main areas of your home. The decision is completely yours.

Storage Space

One option to add more value to your laundry room is to add some built-in shelving or cabinets so that you can store larger items like sheets and towels. Another idea is adding an island with stools that'll help keep everyone together while they work on their laundry. The island can have some shelving for storage and some décor you can store off season. It can also be used as a craft area.

Space for hanging some of your laundry can be important too. During your laundry room renovation or expansion, plan the space closer to the air vent or even the window that you can open to quickly dry your items.

Durable Flooring

Scratch resistant, water resistant and pet and child proof flooring are a must in a multi-purpose space. If you like the wood look throughout your whole house, you can go with the wood look tile, like this one by Arizona Tile. Tile is very versatile and easy to maintain whether you are installing it in the kitchen, basement, or laundry room.

If you are installing your flooring yourself in your multi-purpose laundry room, you can opt in for LVP (luxury vinyl plank). They come in a variety of sizes and easy to install. Provenza Floors Moda Living LVP with aluminum oxide finish is perfect for spaces with some additional traffic. It’s durable and has a great modern look!

Functionality

There are plenty of ways you can liven up your laundry room without breaking the bank or taking away from its functionality. Adding a sink can help with hand washing, cleaning up quick messes, indoor garden and more. Backsplashes are a great way to bring color into your space without cluttering it up. Backsplashes also add an element of style that can be hard to find in a utilitarian room.

Porcelain or ceramic make the best options for backsplash tile for a multi purpose laundry room. It’s easy to clean and it can protect your walls from spills and water splashes. If you are working around the cabinets and the counter top for folding laundry, you can choose contrasting tile color for an impressive finish. Just because it’s a laundry room, doesn't' mean it still can't be trendy!

Another great feature many customers are adding is the dog-washing station.

You can wash off your pup after playing in the yard and keep the dog hair away from your master bathroom. Here is a great example of a dog washing station in one of our customer’s homes.  It’s elevated for easy access since they have a smaller breed, but you can customize it to your liking. This is an absolute must for your home if you have larger dogs!
